A building permit is a document that reviews the life & safety of a structure. A Building Permit is a required document that is expected by the City of Calgary Planning Department. before you begin construction. It gives you permission to erect, demolish, relocate, alter, repair a structure. You can also use a Building Permit to change the use or occupancy of space, for example: Changing a space from commercial to residential use.
The building permit process is for commercial buildings in Calgary. The process is based on several legal bodies: the Safety Codes Act, Permit Regulation & the Alberta Building Code.
The process consists of having your plans reviewed, inspections of your site and to make sure everyone who enters your building is safe. In order to receive your Building Permit you must follow a specific guidelines as outlined under the HOW section.
The people that need to apply for a building permit are those looking to build, construct, repair s building structure. It applies to both Residential, Commercial and Industrial types of buildings.
ANYONE looking to do construction on their space needs to apply for a BUILDING PERMIT. Without it, your construction is illegal and can come with huge penalties if you fail to have one.
